Case Study: Hiring an in-house software engineer to aid a life science tech company's restructure

The situation

A Munich-based life sciences technology company that had created a bio-platform for the analysis of molecular interactions for superior identification of pharmaceutical substances approached us after their co-founder and head of engineering had decided to step away from the business.

The newly appointed head of engineering had identified gaps in their team; a third party had initially created the embedded system, but in order to scale alongside the business's ambitious growth plans, they realised they would need embedded specialists in-house.

As such a pivotal role in the business development and maintenance of their software, they approached Hobson Prior to aid in hiring qualified engineering specialists.

The Hobson Prior solution

Hobson Prior initially met with the Head of Engineering to create a clear brief on their ideal candidate, as well as ensure we had all the information we needed to promote their employer branding. It was important that we were able to effectively represent them in the market and alleviate any concerns new engineers may have following the business restructure.

It was identified that the new hire would need to bring significant experience working on Linux OS (Debian & Ubuntu) and sensor-based systems, due to the nature of the product.

Given the urgency and importance of the hires, as well as the niche specifications required, we built a bespoke retained solution. This would ensure they had set recruiters specialised within the industry dedicated specifically to this project and a central contact that would ensure the project was prioritised and efficient.

The result

Through a mixture of headhunting and our vast candidate network, Hobson Prior delivered 8 resumes within 5 working days.

here all 3 finalists were of equal value, skillset and compatible personalities and the Hiring Manager was really struggling to decide who they wanted.
