Hobson Prior is seeking a Lab Manager to join a growing organization in the animal health sector. In this role, you will oversee laboratory operations, ensuring efficient workflows, compliance with safety standards, and the successful execution of scientific projects. You will also lead a team of laboratory staff, manage resources, and support innovation in veterinary vaccine development.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily lab activities, ensuring smooth operations and proper equipment maintenance.
  • Conduct experiments aligned with project goals and priorities.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Recruit, train, and manage laboratory staff while fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Ensure quality control and accuracy in laboratory results.
  • Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Develop and communicate lab policies to maintain consistency and accountability.
  • Support research initiatives and encourage professional growth within the team.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential laboratory data.
  • Coordinate procurement, maintenance, and upgrades of lab equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including management and research partners.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Strong technical expertise in laboratory methodologies, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
  • Experience with documentation practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven leadership skills to manage and motivate a team.
  • Ability to plan and manage projects, budgets, and resources efficiently.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance and control standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Educational background in life sciences, virology, bacteriology, immunology, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience in process and analytical methods development, validation, and media optimization.
  • Knowledge of vaccine production methods and experience in GLP or GMP environments.
  • Proficiency in microbial techniques such as virus titration, ELISA, PCR, and SDS-PAGE.
  • Experience with cell culture, fermentation, bioreactors, and lyophilization.
  • Familiarity with downstream processing, including inactivation, filtration, formulation, and chromatography.
  • Pilot-scale production experience is a plus.
