Hobson Prior are currently seeking a Director (Rare Disease) to join a leading organisation who designs and manufactures surgical instruments. You will be an essential member of the Research leadership team at the company, where you will support the development and the delivery of the Research strategy.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for advancing existing rare disease programs into late stage pre-clinical development, provide rare disease research support to later stage pre-clinical and clinical rare disease programs as needed.
  • Set clear priorities tied to the Rare Disease product pipeline, working in close collaboration with other business areas as required.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team, identify new disease opportunities for exosome therapeutics.
  • Accountable for the overall resource planning and allocation of people to projects from the Rare Disease team to ensure delivery of corporate goals.
  • You will work cooperatively across the internal R&D organisation including Research, Process Development and Translational Pharmacology to ensure goal alignment and execution of priorities.
  • Support and oversee any third-party partnership or collaborations connected to rare disease, working closely with senior stakeholders to ensure the delivery of objectives and cultivating strong working relationships with external parties.
  • Supporting the strategic decisions in consultation with the VP Research and other key senior leaders to advance Research projects from target selection to advancement into IND/CTA-enabling studies and ultimately to entry into clinical trials.
  • Responsible for developing the skills and expertise within the Rare Disease team whilst embedding and creating a culture which nurtures talent, thrives on innovation and empowers people to grow and perform at work.
  • You will build strong working relationships with enabling functions, including Finance, IP, Legal, Business Development and HR to ensure the optimal environment for delivery with the Rare Disease team.
  • Presents regularly to the internal senior leadership team and provides timely provision of data and documentation reports to support intellectual property filings and regulatory submissions.

  • Proven communication & interpersonal skills with experience managing and presenting complex scientific data
  • Excellent general problem solving and project management skills, with a proven ability to oversee operational aspects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaborative and team-oriented mindset.

Requirements:

  • You will have a minimum of 10+ years proven leadership experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry with track record of taking a drug from concept to clinical phase, ideally within Rare Diseases.
  • PhD in Biology or related field with a preference for candidates with experience in rare disease drug development.
  • Experience in developing and advancing rare metabolic or lysosomal storage diseases beneficial.
  • Expertise in identifying new drugs or targets to treat rare diseases important given our aim to expand the pipeline of drugs.
  • Experience with new drug modalities or advanced biological approaches such as gene therapy desirable.
