Hobson Prior are looking for an Assay Development Scientist to join a top biotechnology organisation on a permanent basis in Hertfordshire. Our client concentrates on developing pioneering gene therapies to enable people living with chronic diseases live a better life.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the hands-on development and establishment of suitable biochemical and enzymatic assays to monitor target activity.
  • Documentation of work to the required scientific and regulatory standards.
  • You will prepare and present results at internal and external meetings and for publication.
  • Protein expression, purification, and characterisation to enable candidate selection.
  • Provision of scientific expertise; able to give technical advice and training and guide decision making or trouble-shooting processes.
  • Stay up to date with scientific literature and new techniques appropriate to the work.
  • Introduce new procedures, assay formats and innovations to improve workflows.
  • Work and communicate effectively with other members of the group, Project Teams, Unit and collaborating organisations/vendors as required.
  • Ensure that work conforms to the requirements of COSHH, and Local Rules for Health and Safety and other Codes of Practice as required by the Safety Policy guidelines.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with team members.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, problem solving and decision-making ability.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in multi-disciplinary, diverse teams.

Requirements:

  • You have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences or related field or equivalent level of work experience.
  • Proven ability to develop biochemical, biophysical and/or cell-based assay techniques suitable for measuring and characterising enzymatic activity (i.e. ELISA plus others, e.g. HTRF, reporter gene, MSD, Octet, etc).
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in enzymology.
  • Evidence of scientific accomplishments in the form of publications, patents and/or presentations.
  • Knowledge and experience of contemporary protein expression and purification techniques would be admirable.
