Join our Discovery Science team as a Research Associate and take the lead in uncovering new drug targets through cutting-edge biophysical and structural characterisation of proteins.

Hobson Prior is currently looking for a Research Associate to support the Discovery Science department and play a leading role in the biophysical and structural characterisation of target proteins to help with the identification of new drug targets.

The Research Associate will support discovery projects by performing routine lab tasks such as molecular biology, cell culture, membrane prep, inventory management, and sample distribution for high-throughput screening. The role involves close collaboration with team members, cross-departmental communication, and maintaining smooth lab operations. Regular coaching and exposure to diverse projects are provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Molecular biology (cloning, transformations, bacterial cell culture), small and large-scale DNA preparation
  • Small and large scale E. coli protein expression and expression analysis.
  • Maintenance of mammalian cell lines, small and large scale transfections, harvesting of supernatants and cell pellets
  • Maintenance of insect cells, virus generation and titres, small and large scale expression.
  • Small scale protein purification and analysis
  • Preparation of cell membranes
  • Preparation and maintenance of stock and buffer solutions, ordering of consumables
  • Protein aliquoting, maintaining accurate records of sample location using Excel and barcode scanning software
  • Responding to regular sample requests, liaising with scientists to ensure timely sample delivery

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Biological Sciences or equivalent
  • Understanding and/or experience in bacterial and mammalian cell culture
  • Previous working history in handling large numbers of samples
  • Competent with pipettes (manual, electronic, single and multichannel)
  • Meticulous, diligent, able to keep accurate records, good organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work efficiently in a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure and respond to changing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work on several projects in parallel
  • Computer literate (proficiency in Microsoft Office)
