Hobson Prior are looking for a talented Principal Scientist - Vector Core Development to join a clinical-stage biotech organisation focused on AAV-based gene therapy targeting the liver. This position with help with ground-breaking research in AAV-based gene therapy aimed at developing the next generation of therapeutics.

Job Responsibilities
:

  • Responsible to set up and manage AAV vectors inventories.
  • Oversee vector core for research-grade AAV vectors and manage daily activities of the team in collaboration with senior leadership to meet research timelines and programme/corporate objectives.
  • Build a highly efficient team capable of handling tight timelines and delivery of quality data.
  • Accountable for virus production, purification, titration and QC.
  • Coordinate AAV production needs with internal teams and manage supply-chain.
  • Stay up to date in the viral vector purification/production field by exploring new technologies, including high-throughput platforms and concepts, to identify opportunities to increase vector productivity and quality for both discovery and preclinical operations.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with CROs to support vector needs in research.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, creative, and rigorous culture of scientific discovery.
  • To maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notes.
  • Author and review technical materials, procedures, protocols, and reports.

  • Ability to manage significant resource demand efficiently prioritizing and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Geneious (or similar DNA analysis software), DoE/statistics software (JMP, Prism, etc.).
  • Well-organized and detailed-oriented with ability to juggle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Virology, Biochemistry, Biophysics or related field with at 3+ years of experience, in the pharmaceutical industry or academic environment. MSc/MRes candidates with substantial experience also considered.
  • You will have extensive experience in production of gene therapy vectors, particularly AAV, and operation and management of vector core facility.
  • Expertise/knowledge in both upstream and downstream processes. Specific expertise in established methods to measure the quality and titre of purified AAV vector is a plus.
  • Experience in managing and collaborating with CROs.
  • Experience in developing SOPs and high throughput workflows.
  • Experience in managing or supervising a team of scientists.
  • Background and understanding of AAV biology as well as gene therapy are highly desirable.
