Hobson Prior are currently looking for a Head of Biology to join a fantastic pharmaceutical organisation on a permanent basis located in Stevenage. Our client is focused on developing innovative remedies to treat rare illnesses.

Key Responsibilities:

• For this position you will be responsible for management, planning, designing, performing, troubleshooting and analysing bespoke experiments in line with the drug discovery and new target validations objectives of the organisation.
• Monitor and train more junior personnel to assist with their scientific abilities, technical skills and broader career development.
• Guide and handle the UK biology group consisting of a team of degree/PhD degree level scientists in the first instance.
• Think methodically and have technology acumens to aid in shaping the breadth of abilities, which involves ground-breaking facilities for ion channel research and ion channel drug discovery in the organisation.
• Any other assigned duties.

• A motivated individual with the ability to learn and/or apply new practices to the field of ion channel drug discovery.

• Demonstrated leadership skills.

Requirements:

• Educated to a PhD degree level or similar within a biological science field would be ideal.
• Exhibited capacity of handling ion channel research and drug discovery in a pharma, biotech and/or CRO life science division.
• Comprehension of ion channels, neuroscience and the principles of electrophysiology and pharmacology.
• Pertinent work experience with the techniques used, for example: whole cell patch clamp, lysopatch and compound mechanism of action studies performed in recombinant and native cell systems.
• Acquaintance with lysosomal biology, automated patch clamp platforms and/or high-throughput screening (HTS) approaches using additional technologies are encouraged to be implemented
• Fluency in the English language.
