Hobson Prior are currently looking for a Director & Head of Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics to join a therapeutics company on a permanent basis located in Cambridge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for defining and providing the DMPK strategy for multiple portfolio programmes to generate data packages to enable decision-making throughout lead optimisation and nomination of clinical candidates for IND/CTA-enabling studies and clinical entry.
  • Developing strategic & project plans to make most efficient use of internal & external resources.
  • Scientific leadership including project leadership, mentorship and development of scientists in the R&D team.
  • Working in interdisciplinary teams to support research strategies and project goals. Identifying and working with external consultants to bring additional expertise to teams.
  • Partnerships with external collaborators: identifying appropriate collaborators (CROs, academics or others), designing studies and interpreting outputs.
  • Presenting plans and results internally, including at board level, and externally at international conferences.
  • Contributing as part of the R&D leadership team to the wider development of the company's R&D strategy and portfolio.
  • Designing project strategies & studies and interpreting data from in vitro & in vivo pharmacokinetic & metabolism studies as well as contributing to the design of PK/PD and efficacy studies to assess potential for clinical utility of lead molecules.
  • Contributing to target selection, prioritisation and advancement discussions across portfolio.
  • Working with clinical leaders and external experts to define target product profiles and generate data packages to support regulatory filings.
  • Contributing to design of appropriate toxicology studies to assess project/compound progress ability.
  • Contributing to writing of regulatory submission documentation.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D in Biology, Pharmacology or a related discipline or a BSc/MSc degree with significant relevant pharma/biotech/CRO drug discovery experience. At least 5 years experience contributing DMPK expertise to successful drug discovery projects across phases from lead optimisation to clinical entry in a pharma, biotech or CRO environment.
  • A deep understanding of contemporary small molecule drug discovery and development.
  • Experience of contributing to company or business unit R&D strategy through creative planning and prioritisation of opportunities.
  • Evidence of significant scientific productivity and impact through your own personal leadership of projects to key milestones including candidate selection and clinical entry.
  • Extensive experience of design and development of suitable strategies to assess DMPK, PK/PD and developability of lead molecules. Interpretation of results including appropriate quantitative and statistical aspects.
  • Highly scientifically creative and flexible as evidenced by successful delivery of multiple projects including "non-standard" projects.
  • Good network & relationships with a wide range of CROs and other external collaborators to identify and access all of the systems and models required for data package generation.
  • Outstanding scientific reputation as evidenced by publication and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication to both senior leadership and project/matrix teams.
  • Evidence of successful leadership of teams to achieve significant project milestones.
  • A hands-on approach to personally leading project and R&D success.
  • Experience of working in fast-moving drug discovery environment, contributing to successful delivery of multiple projects in parallel.
