We are seeking a Process Engineer to support the company’s activity to develop the next-generation of our lab-on-a-chip devices.  The primary role will be to develop new thin-film process technologies and techniques to improve the performance and functionality of the devices.  The post-holder will also be expected to support the transfer of process technologies for the next-generation of devices from R&D to sample production and liaise with external suppliers to facilitate transfer to mass production.


To succeed in the role, candidates will possess an excellent technical background, display superior organizational skills and have experience of interacting at different levels in an organization and across different disciplines.  In addition, candidates who can demonstrate a significant contribution to commercial success in the development of novel thin-film process technologies will be at an advantage.




Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and define process and manufacturing related needs
Propose new process technologies and techniques to address identified needs
Conduct proof-of-concept experiments and fabricate prototype lab-on-a-chip devices in the company’s cleanroom facilities
Support the validation of sample and production level lab-on-a-chip devices through experimental design and analysis
Draft and validate Standard Operating Procedures for new manufacturing processes
Support the transfer of new processes to the company’s pilot line facility for sample production
Liaise with suppliers to transfer new processes to mass production
Identify new equipment and facilities necessary to support process development activities
Support commissioning and troubleshooting of processing equipment and facilities
Drafting patents and analyzing competitor patents
Carrying out all work in accordance with the company’s H&S policies
Complying with the company’s Quality Management Systems



Required Skills & Experience


A good first degree obtained in chemistry, physics, materials science or engineering from a leading university.
A Master’s degree, PhD or at least 2years industrial experience in a relevant field
In depth knowledge of processing technologies and techniques for thin-film materials
Experience in the development of new process technologies and the transfer of these from R&D to production, ideally for semiconductor, display or other electronic products
Demonstrable history of proposing and implementing novel solutions to challenging technical problems
Highly organized with outstanding attention to detail
Quick learner with ability to rapidly apply new skills and knowledge to solve technical problems
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills, both written and oral


Desirable formulation:

A Master’s Degree, PhD or equivalent industrial experience
Experience and/or in depth knowledge of microfluidic devices
Experience in the development or application of any of the following:

Hydrophobic coatings
High quality insulator layers
Thin-film electronics on glass
Experience working in a small company, ideally in the life science, bio-tech or medical device sectors
Familiarity with the PRINCE2 project management framework
Familiarity with Quality Management Systems, preferably ISO13485
