Hobson Prior are looking for a Senior Scientist (Plasmid Process Development) to join a world-wide biopharma organisation who are focused on changing the lives of patients living with severe diseases. This position will support the organisations gene therapy programs by helping to build internal plasmid process development knowledge whilst also supporting the microbial process development for other therapeutic programs.

Job Responsibilities:

• Developing upstream processes for plasmid DNA production as input to Gene Therapy products, working with equipment at shake flask, ambr250, 5L and 200L scales.
• Recognising scale-up challenges and developing robust processes for tech transfer to manufacturing scale.
• Evaluating equipment improvements for automation of process operations and sampling.
• Developing and optimising efficient microbial fermentation, lysis and primary recovery steps.
• Collaborating with the discovery, AAV development, downstream and analytics teams.
• Functioning independently and cross functionally across various teams (including cell line development, Vector Core, quality, analytics etc).

• Ability to manage priorities and engage/communicate in a multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements:

• Ph.D in Biochemical Engineering, cellular biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines with 3+ years' experience. (Master's degree may be sufficient based on experience).
• Direct industry experience with bioreactor and primary recovery operations for the development of plasmid DNA or biologics products.
• Knowledge of molecular biology and analytical methods.
• Previous use of DOE methods in development are admirable.
• Knowledge of, and experience in analytical methods relevant to plasmid DNA production is preferred.
