Hobson Prior are currently seeking a Senior Group Leader (Protein Structure Group) to join a top global biopharmaceutical organisation focused on changing the lives of patients living with severe diseases. This is an excellent opportunity to develop the Protein Structure group, driving the scientific direction of the team and maximising the impact of structural biology on drug discovery projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Full accountability for the daily operation of the Protein Structure Team.
- Share knowledge and experience across structural community.
- Hands-on delivery of structural information to support projects.
- You will make sure all team members are fully engaged and have the opportunity to develop.
- Demonstrate in depth knowledge of software packages and their application to determine structures (CCP4, PHENIX, PyMol, MolProbity; Relion, CCP-EM).
- Troubleshoot and optimise samples; collaborating with protein biochemists in the Protein Structure and Protein Production groups.
- Familiar with all aspects of protein X-ray crystallography of both soluble and membrane proteins.
- You will apply knowledge and experience in project meetings to help develop strategy and achieve project goals.
- Ensure the Protein Structure team works closely with other functions including CADD, Medicinal Chemistry and Antibody Discovery.
- Maintain awareness and implement any advances to ensure structural biology is at the cutting edge at all times.
- Represent as an ambassador by proactively communicating science externally via oral communications at scientific meetings and through publications in peer reviewed scientific journals.

Requirements:
- A PhD (or equivalent) with extensive protein crystallography knowledge ideally gained in an industrial setting or from a highly regarded laboratory specializing in Biochemistry/Structural biology.
- You will have a good understanding of the drug discovery process (NBEs and/or NCEs) with a proven ability to deliver to demanding timelines.
- A good understanding of single particle cryo-EM is expected, and hands-on experience is desirable but not essential. In addition, familiarity with NMR methodologies is expected.
- Proven track record of publications related to structural biology in peer reviewed, high quality science journals.
