What technology do I need?

All you need is internet access and a device capable of recording video, such as a smart phone, tablet or webcam. (If you are using a webcam, HireVue will ask you to allow Flash Player to access your system; you should click ‘allow’ and ‘remember’ before closing the pop up window.) If you have any technical issues, please visit the HireVue help centre.

How long does it take to complete?

Our video interviews typically take just 15-20 minutes to complete. Since they’re on-demand, you can do it at any time, in the comfort of your own home.

Can I retake questions?

Most of our interviews allow you to retake each question once. The number of retakes you’re allowed is specified at the start of the interview, and you’ll see your remaining retakes for each question at the top of the screen. Please note that if you retake a question, we’ll only see your final answer – you can’t choose which answer to submit.

Can I pause the interview?

Yes, you can pause the interview before each question. Simply exit the browser, and click on the ‘practice or interview’ link in your invitation email when you’re ready to resume. Please note that once you’ve listened to a question, you must answer it before you can pause the interview.

Can I use notes?

It doesn’t look good to read from notes when you answer a question. However, you may want to consult notes between questions. We therefore advice having them to hand, but don’t consult them while you’re recording.

What about data protection?

We take data protection seriously and have strict processes in place to ensure we adhere to the Data Protection Act 1998. We considered data protection carefully when choosing HireVue; we’re confident that it has put sufficient physical, managerial, and technical safeguards in place to ensure the security of its systems and the data stored there. Only Hobson Prior employees will see your data and recordings. If you have any further concerns, please contact us.

Does video interview encourage discrimination?

No – we work to strict ethical guidelines to recruit in a non-biased, professional manner. In fact, on-demand video interviews actually help our staff make unbiased, rational decisions about candidates: by enabling them to revisit a candidate’s answers, they gain a more accurate understanding of them and rely less on ‘gut instinct’ or memory.
